Just in the door is the new Tatuaje TAA Exclusive Cigar.  The TAA is rolled in Nicaragua at Don Pepin’s My Father factory, it is a box pressed 5 5/8″ by 54 ring gauge cigar featuring both Nicaraguan binder and filler finished with a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper.  It comes “wet packed” in boxes of 20 with the price right around $10-$11 per cigar before taxes.  The TAA is “Exclusive” because it was only done for participating Tobacconists Association of America shops and the word is that only 1500 boxes were produced and around 48 shops will be carrying these.  This works out great for the cigar community as the availability will allow many people to enjoy this cigar without having to chase after it.  The band features the TAA logo and is similar to the bands that Tatuaje has used in some of the recent Limited Cigars.

Now on to the cigar….

Construction of the TAA is perfect, a flawless wrapper with only a few small viens to it.  Pre-light draw has a hint of earthiness as well as cedar to it.  As I get in the first third of the cigar I get an initial blast of that “Pepin” pepper that is common with many of the cigars that come out of the My Father factory.  Flavors are pretty similar to the Tatuaje Brown Label blend with some earth, cedar and pepper, but a hint of sweetness most likely coming from the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper.

Second third mellows out just a bit with a very similar profile to the first third.  Normally I would let a cigar rest in the humidor at least a few weeks before evaluating but I was extremely curious to give this one a go.

For the final third the cigar seemed to pick up a little in strength and flavor and the flavors seemed to be pretty consistent throughout.  While I hesitate to say it was “typical” of Tatuaje it certainly seemed to be consistent with the fuller bodied/strength Tatuaje’s I have smoked.  It was a very enjoyable cigar and the fact that it is wet packed in foil gives the cigar great aging potential.  We here at Emerson’s Cigars are very appreciative that Pete Johnson gave the members of the TAA a wonderful cigar!
