Cigar Review: Sindicato Corona Gorda

Sindicato Corona Gorda

Last year, Sindicato Cigars unveiled three blends at IPCPR. The three inaugural blends included the mild bodied Affinity, the medium full bodied Hex and the value priced Casa Bella. Their newest cigar, Sindicato, is their flagship brand sporting nothing except the goodness of Nicaraguan tobacco. The Jalapa and Esteli filler tobaccos are wrapped with a double binder of leaves from Esteli, which are then finished with a limited shade grown Jalapa Corojo wrapper. This square pressed cigar is then finished with a pigtail cap and closed foot.

Pre-light: The shade grown Jalapa Corojo wrapper of the Sindicato Corona Gorda is visually great lacking any defects or large veins. The wrapper also has a very smooth, almost silky texture, and exudes a slight aroma of spice and earth. The pre-light draw is great and highlighted with a mild tobacco flavor with a hint of earth.

1/3 of Sindicato

1/3: The initial flavor of the Sindicato Corona Gorda is dominated by pepper notes with a mild hint of sweetness. This profile is more than likely the result of the closed foot, since once I started getting into the binder and filler of the cigar, the flavors became slightly more complex. By the middle of the first third, the cigar has become much more nuanced with the addition of bitter cocoa and coffee bean. The retrohale of cigar mainly consists of pepper with a touch of earth. The construction of the cigar is excellent with a great burn and easy draw.

2/3 of Sindicato

2/3: The second third of the Sindicato Corona Gorda continues to build on the profile of the first third. The early powerful notes of pepper and earth have balanced out against the cocoa and coffee bean notes that emerged late in the first third. The burn continues to be perfect and the retrohale has a profile of earth and cocoa with a mild lingering note of pepper.

Last Third of Sindicato

3/3: The end of Sindicato is highlighted by similar notes of cocoa and earth that emerged in the second third. Overall, Sindicato is perhaps the company’s strongest effort to date, both in terms of strength and construction and is more than deserving of being the company’s flagship cigar. Even before the connoisseur smokes the cigar, they are greeted with an immaculately presented cigar boxed in a simple, yet elegant, manner. Sindicato is a definite must try for medium to full bodied cigar aficionados whom enjoy a smoke with a consistent delicious profile. Sindicato is available in six sizes in sixteen count boxes online at emersonscigars.com as well as in our five Hampton Roads locations.
