Cigar Review: Davidoff Escurio Robusto

Davidoff Escurio

Davidoff Escurio Robusto
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano
Binder: Brazilian
Filler: Dominican (San Vicente, Piloto and Olor/Piloto Seco), Brazilian (Cubra and Mata Fina)

Prelight: One of the many reasons that people smoke Davidoff is their vigorous strive to have the best quality and most consistent cigar. With the first look at the Escurio, one can tell it is a Davidoff due to its impeccable construction and beautiful wrapper. The appearance of the wrapper is a nice dark brown with a good amount of oils to it. The aroma Escurio gave off was one filled with leather, earth, and a strong scent of coffee.

First Third: As I lit the cigar I was taken away by the flavor it already had produced. A very apparent spice lingered on the palate after each puff of the cigar. This spice was also partnered with some underlying sweetness with flavors of cocoa and espresso. On the retro hale the spice took forth and had notes of black pepper. Each draw is bringing in plenty of creamy smoke along with an ash that held together nicely.

Second third: Transitioning into the second third there was a bit of a curveball thrown at me. The original spice that was very predominant in the first third started to fade out slightly. The flavor then turned into more of a very pleasant sweetness bringing in notes of leather, cinnamon, and the continuing flavor of espresso. It seems that right in the middle of the second third is where I found Escurio to be the most flavorful.

The Final third: As the Escurio comes to the final third I have enjoyed the complexity and well balanced flavors. I noticed a slight change in body here. While throughout the duration of the Escurio it was a medium to full in body. The last inch and a half was more full body then the first two thirds. As the body of the cigar went up, so did the flavor. The notes of espresso and cinnamon were the most present while the earthy and peppery notes lingered. The cigar was coming to a quick end and yet my taste buds wanted more!

The Davidoff Escurio is not like any Davidoff. This is a great change up for them, but will be enjoyed by Davidoff fans as well. I strongly recommend everyone gives this one a try!
