Cigar Review: Alec Bradley American Sungrown
The Alec Bradley American Classic was a major success for the Alec Bradley Cigar Company. This mild bodied, yet flavorful, cigar has a modest price point that makes it a quality everyday cigar. In order to attract customers who prefer a fuller bodied cigar, Alec Bradley created the American Sun Grown, which has the same blend as the American Classic, but with a Nicaraguan Sun Grown wrapper. Without further delay, let’s take a look at the Sun Grown.
Appearance: From the very beginning, the cigar is eye catching with a dark and earthy Nicaraguan wrapper. The contrast of the band against the wrapper provides an eye catching display. The band is extremely detailed, begging the shopper to pick up the cigar.
Pre light: The slightly resistant draw reveals great tobacco flavor with a slight hint of pepper on the back end. A noticeable red grape freshness is also coming through.
1/3: From the very beginning, draw is fantastic, producing a fair amount of smoke. The Sun Grown has crisp start with slight notes of pepper and earth with a slight grape finish. After the initial light, pepper and earth notes become more pronounced. Overall, this is a solid medium bodied cigar with a soild gray ash.
2/3: The crisp grape and slight pepper tinge that were prominent in the beginning have died down, while leather and coca notes are becoming more pronounced. The burn is a little uneven, but nothing that requires any real correction; rotating the cigar will ensure an even burn.
3/3 and Final Thoughts: The leather and pepper notes within the cigar have become muted and all that remains is a smooth dark coca finish. Overall, the cigar is a great change up from the traditional American Classic. The cigar has qualities that both fans of the American Classic and fuller bodied smokers will enjoy. The cigar has a diverse flavor profile and a price point that makes it an affordable and flavorful medium bodied cigar.
