La Amistad Black from Hoyo de Monterrey and AJ Fernandez
The recent Hoyo de Monterrey La Amistad Black is the most recent in a wave of collaboration projects between A.J. Fernandez and General Cigar Company which have yielded very impressive results. It’s the third time the two cigar companies have worked together on the Hoyo de Monterrey La Amistad Line (Previous releases: La Amistad Gold and La Amistad Silver).
The Cigars are blended by AJ Fernandez and rolled at the AJ Fernandez factory in Nicaragua. In a press release, Senior Brand Manager Ed Lahmann commented on the collaboration saying there were challenges, ““crafting a cigar that bears the essence of Hoyo, while also embodying the spirit of his tabacalera in Nicaragua. The result is the boldest expression in the La Amistad partnership and we’re very pleased with what AJ has delivered,” he added.

Featuring a meticulously fermented Ecuadoran Sumatra Oscuro wrapper that’s peppered with Nicaraguan Habano filler leaves, La Amistad Black has a Mexican San Andrean binder. Together, notes of cinnamon, leather and hot sauce deliver the quintessential power and spice of an AJ blend, while giving a nod to the bold and flavorful tradition of Hoyo cigars.
