6th Annual Montecristo Classic

6th Annual Montecristo Golf Classic Recap

The 6th Annual Montecristo Golf Classic is officially in the books. The weather was perfect and the scores were low! Out of the 124 golfers playing in the tournament, we had three groups come in with a 17 under score of 55! This year’s tie-breaker was the lowest score for the back nine. The winning group of Joby Foley, Scott Pachter, John Leonard and Nick Jacovides shot a 26 on the back nine. Second place went to the group of Chuck Brooks, Steve Graham, Tim Bateman and Kevin Sherwood with a score of 27 on the back nine. Third Place went to the group of Kevin McMillen, Levi Washburn, Kyle Kelly and Mr. Wexler with a score of 28 on the back nine. The “Closet to the Pin” award went to Jim Mills, who hit a great shot to less than 6 feet on the par 3 10th hole. The “Longest Drive” award went to Nick Jacovides, who smashed a drive over 325 yards on the par 5 18th hole. We also had Ted Bogan make a Hole In One on the par 3 15th hole!

First off, we would like to thank our sponsor Altadis USA, the world’s largest cigar maker, for providing all the great cigars we enjoyed during the day. Joining us from Altadis USA were Brad Winstead: Mid-West Regional Sales Manager, Jill Myers: South Region Sales Manager, Gene Tipton: Vice President of Sales for Premium Cigars, and David Palm: North Carolina and Virginia Area Sales Manager.

Special thanks to our additional sponsors, SunTrust Investment Services, Pooley Mahoney Law Firm, Rice Advertising, Ntrust Wealth Management, Cedar Creek Construction, Safeguard Business Services, Independent Lighting and Golf Headquarters in Chesapeake for supporting the tournament.

Once again the staff at Cahoon Plantation and Winston’s Catering did a great job to make the tournament run as smoothly as it did. The golf course was in amazing shape and the pin placements were set up to offer a great challenge for all the golfers.

This year’s tournament was not only a lot of fun, but was a huge success in raising money for Operation Homefront Virginias. Carol Berg, Executive Director for Operation Homefront of the Virginias, was on hand to talk to everyone about the organization. Operation Homefront Virginias provides funds during difficult financial times to local military personnel and wounded warriors who are in need of assistance with tasks such as purchasing food, home and auto repair, transitional housing, moving assistance and more.
