The first new cigar from Eddie Ortega, the Ortega Serie “D”<\/a> is now available in 5 sizes, all of which are boxed pressed.\u00a0 Rolled in Estelli, Nicaragua, this cigar is being released in small quantities to a small number of retailers at this time.\u00a0 We here at Emerson’s Cigars are honored to be a part of Eddie Ortega’s new venture.\u00a0 The Serie “D” comprises a rich and complex blend of tobaccos grown in South and Central America with Nicaraguan tobaccos from Esteli and Jalapa giving it the prevalent flavors topped off with an exquisite Mexican Maduro wrapper.<\/p>\n

Today I will be reviewing the Ortega Serie “D” No. 7, which is a 5 x 46 sized cigar.<\/p>\n

Prelight: The appearance of the Serie “D” is flawless in construction with no soft spots and minimal veins.\u00a0 The cold draw is a bit of spice and hay, with a slight hint of pepper to it.\u00a0 A pretty typical cold draw for a Nicaraguan cigar.<\/p>\n

\"Ortega<\/a>First third: As I get in the first third there is heavy pepper and spice, it is very upfront and hitting the tongue with a lot of flavor!\u00a0 Retrohale has a cedar burn to it as well.\u00a0 This is definitely for someone who prefers a cigar on the medium to full bodied side.\u00a0 The burn line has been razor sharp so far and ash is a light gray color, holding on for well over an inch.<\/p>\n

\"Ortega<\/a>Second Third: Getting in to the second third the initial “punch” from the first third has settled a little bit, and it has become a much more balanced cigar. The cigar is still full of flavor, but it has settled to more of a medium strength and is smoking very nicely. The draw from the cigar is great, only requiring a slight touch up to correct the burn line, which I have found to be pretty normal for most box pressed cigars. I am really enjoying this cigar so far!<\/p>\n

\"Ortega<\/a>Final Third: The finish to the Ortega Serie “D” No. 7 was pretty consistent to the second third.\u00a0 A good balance of pepper, spice and cedar.\u00a0 Burn and draw were both excellent throughout the entire cigar.\u00a0 Just about burned the fingers finishing this cigar off, it was just too good to put down!<\/p>\n

I found this cigar to be a great cigar!\u00a0 And with the price being between $6-$8 for the various sizes it is another huge plus!\u00a0 The Serie “D” started out with a big, full bodied “punch”, but settled nicely and was very enjoyable.\u00a0 I am partial to medium to full bodied cigars, Nicaraguan’s in particular, so this was right up my alley.\u00a0 Definitely worthy of a box purchase and looking forward to seeing how these cigars smoke once they have had a little more rest as well!<\/p>\n
