Avo Heritage<\/a>, I wasted no time. A superb collaboration between Avo and Hendrik Kelner with assistance from Eladio Diaz and Manuel Peralta, I almost felt a little worried before I lit up. I have such high expectations of this cigar and felt like I might judge it a little unfairly. It\u2019s tough to be unbiased when you anticipate greatness.<\/p>\nBut greatness is what followed.<\/p>\n
After sampling buckets of new cigars from IPCPR this year it\u2019s nice to feel like you\u2019re going home again. And that\u2019s not to say that Avo Heritage doesn\u2019t bring something new to the table, because indeed it does, but the superb quality that gives Avo such high recognition is not lost. So let\u2019s get it to it, shall we?<\/p>\n
First Impression: It\u2019s said that you have 10 seconds to make a first impression. Well, Avo\u2019s cigars and I are old friends but I did my best to treat the newest member of the family as if we were complete strangers. The cigar has a few veins and is a gorgeous shade of chocolate brown with a subtle oily shimmer. Not super firm, the Heritage smells inviting with sweet nuances.<\/p>\n
First Third: There\u2019s a burst of spice right from the beginning but with a nice smoothness. Immediately you are rewarded with tons of smoke. The aroma isn\u2019t too strong yet, but I expect it will be the more we get into it. Definite flecks of pepper and a woodiness. The spice begins to settle a bit and a sweetness emerges. I lost the ash before the second third but I may have let it sit to long. But so far, soooo goood.<\/p>\n
Second Third: Moving into the second part of the Avo Heritage, it\u2019s a pretty solid medium body. The sweetness has a caramel taste to it and I can detect the earthiness emerging more. I also found something really unique, almost like the aftertaste of a pear? The flavors begin to meld though and there\u2019s more body to it. The aroma has built some but not too strong. I\u2019m really tasting those classic Avo flavors I was excited for.<\/p>\n
Final Third: The smoothness is just perfect paired with the spice. Still have that wood flavor, but not what I would really consider cedar. The aroma is more sweet and the Heritage is edging closer to that full bodied range. The cigar finishes nice and warm, like putting on a wool sweater at the end of an crisp, Fall day.<\/p>\n
Overall Impression: Avo Heritage is one of those cigars you don\u2019t want to pass up. It\u2019s a great cigar for any occasion, but also a treat that\u2019s perfect for ending a week on the back deck with a glass of your favorite spirit. The weather is cooling and this cigar has just enough body to compliment whatever mood Mother Nature might be in.<\/p>\n
